Well, we have good news! On behalf of everyone in our fellowship, we offer heartiest congratulations to Rebecca (Bates) and Abbie (Frampton) on their fantastic GCSE results and also to Avril (Frampton again!) who achieved the A level results she needed and has now left us to continue her studies at Plymouth University. Well done all of you!!

June England is organising a weekend away at Warner’s Norton Grange Hotel on the Isle of Wight with Kirby Coaches on Friday September 30th – Monday October 3rd at the very special price of £159 per person. This price is inclusive of transport, half board accommodation and entertainment. The theme for the weekend is “Kinda Kinks” (as in The Kinks pop group) and anyone who has been to a Warner’s Hotel will be very well aware of just what an amazing special offer this is. June needs numbers asap, so if you are interested and would like to know more please phone on 372225.

At last the outstanding raffle prize from our Summer Fete has been claimed! The blue raffle ticket number 556 was purchased by Doreen Robinson’s neighbour, Carol, who was thrilled with her hamper especially as she bought just two tickets!

A reminder of the work parties that have been arranged for both churches:

Thursday September 8th at St. Mary’s

Saturday September 10th at St. Cedd’s.

All volunteers – as many as possible please – will be welcomed with open arms!

St. Mary’s will be serving their wonderful cream teas in the afternoon of September 10th which will be an ideal opportunity to replace all those calories that have been worked off in the morning!

Weekend of Mission 23rd to 25th September 2011

Fri 23rd 7.30-9.30pm A Celebration of Hope - for adults – there is a sheet to sign up if you are considering going so that organisers can have a rough guide to numbers and we can arrange lifts.

Sat 24th 6-9pm & Sun 25th 5-8pm Rock Thurrock - for youth - see flyer don’t forget that there are envelopes in both churches to enable you to make a contribution to the cost of the weekend mission. Most of the £30k costs have been covered but there is a £9000 shortfall which all churches across the borough are being asked to help raise.

Your opinions please - Harvest Celebration Sunday October 2nd

Usually we have Family Worship at St C’s and an evening Harvest Communion at St M’s. It has been suggested we have a Joint Harvest Communion on Sunday morning and no evening service at St. M’s. Please let us know (via Andy) what you think. 2 questions...

1) should we have just one (morning) service, and if so…

2) where should this be held and at what time?

Also if you know someone that you would like to give a gift of harvest produce to, please let Susan Hill know (GT400767)

 Funerals

Please pray for the family and friends of those whose funerals have been conducted during the last few weeks…

04/08/11 Mrs Thelma Opie of Dene Croft Gardens, Grays

…and for those that have been arranged:

30/08/11 Mr Brian Welsh of Collier Court, Crammavill Street

27th Pat Futcher & Mandy Turvey; 28th Olive Murphy & Esther Akinbala. 2nd September Richard Wood; 2nd Betty Seeley; 5th Janet Crossley; 22nd Pat Backhouse; 26th Anne Symons;

Parish Notes - 21th August - 9th Sunday after Trinity

Many thanks to those who turned out last Saturday to give St. Mary’s a makeover! Only about half a dozen were able to make it but they worked their socks off in the churchyard from about 10 until gone 7pm! However, they are still not satisfied and have arranged to meet on Thursday 8th September ahead of the Essex Churches Ride & Stride and cream teas to attack the inside of the church this time! We will let you know times a little later but if you can set a aside some time for 8th September you will be very, very welcome!

The Essex Churches Bike Ride is taking place on Sat 10th Sept and as both churches will be open for the cyclists to visit, a work party is to be organised at St. Cedd’s on that day. There are lots of jobs that need doing both inside and outside the church, so do please turn up if you possibly can and bring your marigolds with you!

Weekend of Mission 23rd to 25th September 2011

Fri 23rd 7.30-9.30pm A Celebration of Hope - for adults – there is a sheet to sign up if you are considering going so that organisers can have a rough guide to numbers.

Sat 24th 6-9pm & Sun 25th 5-8pm Rock Thurrock - for youth - see flyer.

 Mission Costs

The total cost of this is in excess of £30k with an estimate £9000 left to be raised. Churches across the borough have been asked to help out as much as possible and over the next few weeks there will be a collecting facility in both churches so that we can all do whatever we can to help e.g. 200 people giving £50 would bridge the gap. Amongst fellowship members of all denominations in Thurrock this will be achievable. Envelopes become available to make an offering.

May we please have your opinion?

Have you let Andy know your thoughts on the idea that we have a Joint Harvest Festival on Sunday 3rd October? It would of course normally be a joint family service but it has been suggested that we make it a traditional joint Harvest Festival service with Holy Communion which would mean that there would be no service at St. Mary’s on that evening. Please let us know what you think.

Also if you know someone that you would like to give a gift of harvest produce to, please let Susan Hill know (GT400767)

 Funerals

Please pray for the family and friends of those whose funerals have been conducted during the last few weeks…

20/07/11 Mr Thomas Robert Andrews of Porters Avenue, Dagenham

21/07/11 Mrs Lilian Hutchison of Saints Walk, Chadwell St. Mary

04/08/11 Mrs Thelma Opie of Dene Croft Gardens, Grays

Parish Notes - 7th August - 7th Sunday after Trinity

Today we must say farewell and God speed to Dayo, Simbo and the family as they leave us for pastures new in Switzerland. We are going to miss them all and our very best wishes and prayers go with them.

Please note that as Andy is now away on holiday this news sheet is for a couple of weeks as we can’t get them printed so the following are reminders:

No Lunch club in August

There is to be a work party at St. Mary’s on Sat 13th Aug kicking off at about 10am. There are jobs to be done both inside and outside the church so please turn up if you can and lend a hand.

The Essex Churches Bike Ride is taking place on Sat 10th Sept and as both churches will be open for the cyclists to visit, a work party is to be organised at St. Cedd’s on that day.

St. Mary’s will be serving their wonderful cream teas in the afternoon which will be an ideal opportunity to replace all those calories that have been worked off in the morning!

A Fun Day to raise funds for Kings College Hospital in London is being held at The Grays School, Hathaway Road on Sat Sept 16th. Unfortunately the organisers have been let down on the printing of the programmes and they now need help. It has been suggested that if anyone has access to a printer, they may perhaps be willing to buy a cartridge of ink and use it to print off as many programmes as possible – until the ink runs out. If you are able to help in this way, please contact Susan Hill on 400767.
