Parish Notes - Sunday 20th June (Third Sunday after Trinity)

Last Saturday, Thelma and her little team of helpers spent the day at North Stifford Village Fete running a tombola, selling their hand made greetings cards and handing out flyers advertising our two forthcoming church open days.   The sun shone for most of the day, the rain stayed away, everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable day and as if that wasn’t enough, just over £308.00 was raised towards the re-decoration of St. Mary’s.   Many thanks to everyone involved!  It was lovely to hear Revelation in full swing again and if you missed them this time you will be able to hear them at our own parish fete on 17th July at St. Cedd’s.

Next Saturday, 26th June, is the second of our two open days – this one to be held at St. Cedd’s from 9 – 11.30am.   Do encourage your friends, family and neighbours to come along – refreshments will be served and it will be a great opportunity for them to find out more about us.   We are hoping that as many of you as possible will come along to support Elaine and her helpers and to chat to the visitors.

Just in case you missed last week’s pew sheet and haven’t yet heard of our outstanding success during Christian Aid Week, you should be very proud to know that between us we raised £1220 this year!   This is more than last year and was so unexpected that I couldn’t quite believe it at first!   If everyone worked as enthusiastically as you all did, our fiscal debt problem would disappear!   Thank you everyone.

‘Where is God in all our world chaos?’ Our Alpha Course may help you think these things through. Although we have started you can still join those going from our Parish on Tue 22nd June, 8-9.30pm , at St Clements, W. Thurrock (lifts provided).  Explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over a few thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a Saturday away. If you’re considering Confirmation then this is a good preparation. Give it a try - ask Andy for more details.

Parish Notes - Sunday 13th June (Second Sunday after Trinity)

You have no idea how delighted I am to be able to tell everyone that the total raised for this year’s Christian Aid Week amounted to £1220 of which £185 was gift aided which will bring in a further £50!  This is more than we raised last year in spite of the loss of a couple of key collectors and all the problems associated with the economy.  So, thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who was involved whether it was donating, collecting, or arranging coffee mornings, cream teas, agape suppers, special lunches, pram & buggy sessions, making cakes – oh my goodness, I could go on and on!  Give yourselves a jolly good slap on the back!  Well done everyone!

Next Sat, 19th June, is the first of our Church Open Days to be held at St. Mary’s from 2-4pm.  The idea is to encourage members of our community to come along, have a chat and a cup of tea and find out what we’re about and, when they realise what a nice bunch of people we are, well hopefully they will come and see us again at a Sunday service!  We will be using the same boards illustrating the various services and activities that we used last year, and we hope that as many of you as possible will come along to support this venture.  If for any reason you can’t make this Saturday, the maybe you will be able to come along to our St. Cedd’s Open Day on the morning of Sat 26th June 9-11.30.  If you would like to be involved in helping on either of these days, please phone Elaine Duddy on 01708 854506.

Whilst we’re talking about helping – there is to be a work party at St. Mary’s, the same Saturday as the open day just to spruce up the grounds in preparation for all our visitors!  If you would like some gentle exercise & good fun, weeding etc, if only for an hour, please come along about 10am.

Parish Notes - Sunday 6th June (First Sunday after Trinity)

At this time when we hear about environmental disasters in the Gulf of Mexico and a man’s mind snapping in Cumbria leading to a killing spree, you would be quite likely to ask ‘Where is God in all this?’ At our Alpha Course others will also have these questions on their minds. Give it a try - ask Andy for more details.

Gifts are still needed for our tombola stall at North Stifford Village Fete on Sat 12th June and Thelma is accepting gifts, (as soon as possible) so that they can be wrapped and labelled in plenty of time.
