If you are interested in the possibility of Confirmation we are using the next Alpha Course which starts on Tue 25th May, 8-9.30pm, as preparation.  It is being hosted at St Clements, W. Thurrock (lifts provided).  Does God Exist?  Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a Saturday away.  You can come along on the first week to see if it is something that you might find helpful.  Over the last couple of weeks we have been appealing for contributions for our tombola stall at North Stifford Village Fete on Sat 12th June and Thelma is now a little concerned that we will have a tombola stall with no prizes!   We are hoping that as many of us as possible will be able to donate a small gift, (it really doesn’t have to be much), as soon as possible so that Thelma and her team can get them wrapped and labelled in plenty of time.  Thank you.

Elaine Duddy has some NSPCC raffle tickets for sale at £1 each. First prize is £7,000 with numerous other prizes as well.   If you would like to buy a ticket please sees Elaine at St. Mary’s or Andy at St. Cedd’s and he will pass them on.

As you probably know, we have some members of our church family who are very much in need of our prayers at this moment and we want them to know that we are all thinking of them and praying for them and their families.

Parish Notes - Sunday 9th May (6th Sunday of Easter)

This is the start of Christian Aid Week and here are some ways you can get involved and/or help raise funds…

- Special service at 6.30 pm this evening at United Reform Church , Bradleigh Avenue to which we are all invited.

- Coffee Pot Club special Sat 15th in the parish hall 8.30-11.15 am where you will not only be able enjoy an excellent selection of hot drinks and light refreshments but you will also have the opportunity of browsing through the table top sale for a bargain or a jolly good read in the book section.  Find out for yourself just what a good start to the weekend the Coffee Pot Club is!

- St. Mary’s famous cream teas! Sat 15th 2-4 pm.  A cup of tea or coffee, a fresh scone piled with cream served in the sunshine (hopefully) in front of our lovely old church in the village.  It sounds idyllic and it is, though if the sun decides not to shine, we’ll simply move the whole event into the church!  Don’t worry about those extra calories – enjoy the moment and help Christian Aid to live up to their motto – We Believe in life before death!

- Help with some door to door collecting around Stifford Clays; it is not too late to volunteer. Not done it before? Give me a ring on GT 376580 and I will explain & drop some envelopes around for you.

Please help us to support them in whatever way you can. Don’t forget that donations can be ‘Gift Aided’ if you pay tax by filling in your address details and putting a donation in a Christian Aid envelope.

Although last week’s Lunch Club was cancelled you won’t have to wait for another 2 weeks before your next get together because the team are now back and rarin’ to go!  Business as usual, this coming Wed 12th, 1 pm in the parish hall for a light 2 course meal + drink.

Next Sat 15th Work Party at St Mary’s 10.30am onwards - please give an hour of your time, either inside or outside.

The next Alpha Course starts Tue 25th May, 8-9.30pm, hosted at St Clements, W. Thurrock (lifts provided).  Does God Exist?  Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a Saturday away.  You can come along on the first week to see if it is something that you might find helpful.
