We have received thanks for our Harvest Festival gifts from the individuals who received them as well as from Thurrock Teenage Parent Project and the Salvation Army.

Our Annual Bereavement Memorial Service is taking place at 4pm in St Cedd’s next Sunday 30th Oct, followed by refreshments. Invitation cards have gone out to the families of those whose services have been conducted on behalf of the parish, in the past year, but all are invited so please pick up an invitation to give to a neighbour or friend.

North Stifford Village Community Group is hosting a Quiz Night in the village hall at 7.30pm on Fri 4th Nov, with a ‘Bonfire & Guy Fawkes’ theme. Contact Val Oakley if you are interested in going

Pram & Buggy Special! Pram & Buggy is holding a Soft Play Afternoon to raise funds for Help for Heroes on Tuesday 8th November 1.15pm - 2.45pm. There will be a bouncy castle, ball pool and building blocks as well as a raffle and refreshments so please support Anne and her team if you possibly can. The entrance fee of £1 per pre-school child is payable on the door.

Please keep our appeals for help for our Christmas Bazaar on Saturday November 19th at the fore front of your minds as we really do need your encouragement and support. If you think you have an idea which will liven up the afternoon, please speak to Val, Thelma, Brenda or David. We also need people to sell as many raffle tickets as possible before the day, so if you can take a book to sell as many as you can in a week, please see June E.

If anyone has access to a Flip Chart Stand that could be loaned out for a short period of time, would you please have a word with Andy as he is trying to borrow one at the moment.

There is to be a Diocesan Consultation Day at the Brentwood Centre, Brentwood on 21st January from 10am-4pm when 1000 people from across the Diocese will meet to discuss how we can develop our witness and ministry – to identify what we should do and how we’re going to do it. This promises to be an interesting and stimulating day which is open to everyone in our congregation. Brenda has all the details and if you would like to know more please contact her on GT376580 as soon as possible. Tea and coffee will be provided but you will need to bring your own packed lunch.

Gifts for the Lighthouse Seafarers Mission need to be in by 27th of November please – the list of the toiletries that are needed is in both churches and on the news sheets of the last few weeks. Don’t forget to leave them unwrapped because they will be sorted and gift wrapped at a central location. Thank you!

We are also appealing for donations for our Grand Raffle please. June has already obtained some prizes from local traders – Baldwins, the pet shop, Hair & Beauty and Razor have all promised to help but we really need promises of Lakeside vouchers/cash, (maybe a group of friends could club together for this), whisky/spirits or wine etc, cuddly toy, chocolates etc. If you are able to help please contact June on GT 372225 before the end of this week because she needs to get the raffle tickets printed. Thank you.

Paul Cave from The Lighthouse Seafarers Mission has asked for our help in preparing Christmas gift parcels to seafarers calling at Tilbury and we therefore hope we can all bring along something from the following list: Single pre wrapped toothbrushes, toothpaste, lipsol, soaps, flannels, deodorants, small sizes of shampoo and shower gel, nivea cream, & Christmas cards. Please leave unwrapped because they will be sorted at a central location. For the knitters among us, patterns are available for woollen hats, scarves & neck warmers. There will be a list of the above in both church buildings as a reminder. Gifts need to be in by 27th November please.

Parish Notes - 9th October - 16th Sunday after Trinity

Please remember that we are collecting money gifts to help the work of Tear Fund over the next couple of weeks and I am sure that we will all think very prayerfully about what we can donate. Gifts of tinned and fresh fruit and vegetables from our Harvest Festival services last week were delivered to 8 families in Stifford Clays and the balance was taken to organisations in the town centre who support the needy – thank you to everyone who donated so generously.

Plans for our Christmas Bazaar Sat November 19th are beginning to take shape, but we really do need your encouragement and support so please, please do your best to come up with new ideas or offers of help on the day. Val, Thelma, Brenda & David are all desperately hoping for inspiration so if you have an idea, please don’t keep it to yourself - let us have your suggestions as soon as possible!

A gentle reminder to everyone at St. Cedd’s please - we need just one more team to commit to making tea and coffee on the 2nd Sunday every month and then each and every Sunday will be covered! It just involves making a pot of tea and coffee, pouring it out and clearing away afterwards! Please help to take the uncertainty out of this if you possibly can by offering to do this – it is a particularly good way for newer members of our church family to get to know everyone, so don’t be shy – simply have a word with anyone who is doing teas after the service and they will be more than happy to show you the ropes.

Parish Notes - 2nd October - 15th Sunday after Trinity

Today we remember the work of TEAR Fund as we celebrate our Harvest Festival at both churches. We will be collecting money gifts over the next couple of Sundays, so please pray about what to give.

Our Christmas Bazaar this year will be held on Sat November 19th. Please put the date in your diary so that you can come along and support us. Better still; why not give some thought towards helping us, either in the planning or on the day! If you have any ideas that you have seen at other bazaars that may help to ‘freshen up’ ours, please pass them on to Val, Thelma, Brenda or David. -If you have an idea, you won’t be roped into putting it into practice so please don’t keep it to yourself! - let us have your suggestions as soon as possible so that we can plan and prepare everything.

Our neighbouring parish, St. John’s in Victoria Avenue are rebuilding their church hall – themselves! The foundations are in and up to floor level so the project is well under way. If you have some spare time and would like to help (no building experience needed but a great opportunity to learn a new skill) please contact Rev Clive Russell on GT 372101 or Mr Roger Going on GT 386367
